Polye sees no justice in change of current coalition government

DEPUTY Prime Minister Don Polye has accused “alien interest” in destabilising the country before the election to oust the National Alliance-led coalition Government.
“There is no justifiable reason for the National Alliance coalition Government to be replaced in the next term of Parliament,” Mr Polye said yesterday.
He said the coalition Government had been very attentive to all criticisms that had been said about the Government and were yet to hear something more justifiable and convincing.
“All we have heard is some hot air politics, power play by aspirants of political ambitions, and, at times I don’t know whether it is unconscious or deliberate but it’s some kind of promotion of alien interests in this country.
“I’d like to point these things out, sometimes I’m prompted to believe that the promotion of alien interest in this country is done by our own very people unconsciously, we must demarcate between PNG interest and alien interest, we must also distinguish between what is factual and what is not, what is practicably achievable and what is not,” Mr Polye said.
He the Government expected union strikes, universities to be used, public service to be used, and various NGOs would be used at this time when election is around the corner.
“But, one question I would pose, is it really in the best interest of the country?” he asked
Mr Polye gave the examples that would affect PNG and its people including; mass resignation by university staff, demands by trade unions for 100% pay rise, Telikom workers strike, the Moti saga and some misleading media reports.
“The big picture that needs to be read is that 2007 is an election year and any action taken a few months before the national election is suspicious.
“We have seen such actions occur time and time again in the past when an election is looming period.”
Mr Polye said the Government had addressed some outstanding issues like pay rise and entitlements in the previous budgets, and were continuing to address them.
