Former NA man to run under PP ticket

By KEVIN PAMBA
A FORMER National Alliance party executive in Madang and electoral staff of Health Minister Sir Peter Barter has been endorsed by People’s Party to run for the Madang Regional seat.
Nalon Der, long time political aide of Sir Peter and former Madang administrator will be the People’s Party candidate to contest the seat that his former boss will not defending in this year’s election for personal reasons.
People’s Party president Wera Mori announced the endorsement of Mr Der during the launch of the party’s Madang branch at Bates Oval in Madang last Saturday.
Mr Der, who was the former chairman of the NA’s Madang branch, was on hand to receive the endorsement in front of several thousands of people.
Mr Mori said in a fiery speech that predominantly questioned how the NA-led Government awarded the Ramu Nickel Project to the Chinese developers, that it was time people of Madang woke up and voted for change.
He described the Ramu project deal as a “sell out” where the Madang people’s right to have a major say had been traded and the province needed the People’s Party and Mr Der to be the governor to review the whole deal.
Meanwhile, Mr Ipatas and Mr Mori said the country needed a new prime minister with a new vision and hope for the majority of the people and not one of the “recycled leaders”.
They said Mr Ipatas was the man who had a proven track record in managing Enga, particularly in its emphasis on social services like education for the small people and he must be given the chance to implement those policies at the national level.
