Leahy elected NGP president

HIGHLANDS businessman George Leahy was elected the New Generation Party’s (NGP) national president at the inaugural national convention in Lae, Morobe province, over the weekend.
Mr Leahy said he welcomed the appointment and was prepared to take up the enormous challenge bestowed upon him while the election was just around the corner.
He said it was his first time to make public speeches and stand in the front line of political parties.
Lae businessman and candidate Sir Bob Sinclair welcomed the appointment of Mr Leahy on behalf of the intending candidates and said that it was timely to take the risk that would determine the success.
“NGP has 15 years experience of political leadership in Mr Philemon and we are prepared with these new appointments to redirect the cause of thinking in this country,” Sir Bob said.
Sir Bob will contest the Morobe Regional Seat currently occupied by Governor Luther Wenge, leader of the People’s First party.
The New Generation Party has so far selected 70 candidates for the elections, but will choose 38 more in the weeks ahead before the issuing of writs.
Other executive council members were; Thaddeus Kambanei (Momase regional coordinator), Paul Arnold (NGI regional coordinator) and Joe Ninipa (Highlands regional coordinator).
