Pouru heads National Forest Service

By BIBIAN BARRENG
THE National Forest Service’s senior management team and the Minister for Forestry Patrick Pruaitch officially welcomed its latest managing director Kanawi Pouru yesterday.
Mr Pruiatch said the appointment came after a long due process by the National Executive Council in screening applicants.
He said the appointment of Mr Pouru showed the confidence the Government had of forestry policies being implemented and that professionalism, discipline and work ethics is brought back into the National Forest Service (NFS).
Mr Pruaitch also acknowledged the hard work put in by the two acting managing directors Terry Warra and Dike Kari.
He said that during the five-year term of the Sir Michael Somare Government, there had been 10 impact projects of which the Government will have permitted three quarters of the projects.
The minister revealed the five projects that had been permitted were East Arwin in the Western province, Cloudy Bay in Central province, Rottock Bay and Asengsay both in West New Britain and Amanab Blocks 1 to 4 in West Sepik province. Three other projects in the advanced stages of being permitted include Ramu Block 1, Aitape Lumi and Amanab Blocks 5 and 6 in Sandaun province.
Mr Pouru, who has worked for a number of years with NFS, said he was prepared to take up the challenge of addressing issues faced by NFS, while aiming to restore confidence and credibility in the Forest Service.
