Muingnepe suspended

THE Leadership Tribunal appointed to inquire into 13 allegations of misconduct in office against Bulolo MP John Muingnepe started its proceedings on Monday, and he has been suspended from active duties on full pay.
The Leadership Tribunal’s hearing, to be held at the premises of the National and Supreme Courts at Waigani, will be chaired by Justice Moses Jalina and assisted by senior magistrates Sam Lavutul and Geoff Katenge as members.
Lawyer to the Ombudsman Commission Nemo Yalo, in a statement, said the commission referred Mr Muingnepe to the Public Prosecutor last June 6 after having investigated and formed a view that the leader had been guilty of misconduct in office in relation to his failure to submit six annual statements to the commission when they fell due as required by law.
On Monday, Ravu Auka, representing the acting public prosecutor Jack Pambel, formally referred the leader to the tribunal by presenting the charges to the members of the tribunal, pursuant to Section 28 of the Organic Law on the Duties and Responsibilities of Leadership (OLDRL), the legal effect of the referral is that the leader is suspended from duty with full pay.
