Stocks in partnership with women rugby

By MUSARIKE ANANGAI
One of the six clubs taking part in this year's inaugural women's rugby union competition secured a sponsorship worth K5,530 yesterday to assist them with their playing expenses.
That club, University, will join Defence, Wanderers, LaSallians, Chiefs and Brothers in a women's division hosted by the Port Moresby Rugby Football Union at Bava park.
The sponsorship by consulting and engineering firm, Stocks and Partners, will go specifically towards the purchase of jerseys, polo shirts, equipment hire, water cooler and containers, registration, and transportation costs.
Stocks and Partners managing director Lawrence J. Stocks said this week that since the company had grown in its seven years of operation, it was time to give something back to the community.
"To be able to sell ourselves better, we thought it was a good idea to provide a bit of assistance," he said.
Club assistant manager Sarah Tsiamalili said there has not been much interest shown by business houses towards the new initiative but hoped the first sponsorship will mark the beginning of many more to come.
The women's competition will kick start their two-week pre-season competition this weekend before the normal season starts in three weeks time.
So far only players above the age of 20 have been allowed to play.
