Small coffee loans from Wau Micro Bank
SMALLHOLDER coffee growers in Eastern Highlands province can now secure small loans from the Wau Micro Bank.
This becomes possible under a deal signed recently between the bank and the Coffee Industry Corp (CIC).
Nicholas Elo, spokesman and treasurer of the Eastern Highlands CCGS co-operative farmers, said it will now be easy for their members to secure small loans for new and existing coffee projects.
“It’s a step in the right direction,” Mr Elo said.
CIC chief executive Ricky Mitio during the signing said the deal aims to provide finance services to coffee farmers engaged in production and who are closely associated with the CIC and its programmes.
The contract signing was done at CIC headquarters with Mr Mitio signing for CIC and the chief executive of Wau Micro Bank chief executive Mr Somaratne signing for his bank.
