| Nothing to shout about after 40 years | |
|
IT is rare for a person like Sir
Michael Thomas Somare to be in active politics for 40 consecutive years.
I believe it will go down in history books. Sir Michael has seen PNG grow from day one to where it is now. Let us reflect on our achievements and failures. Have we gone forward? Has our living standard improved? Is our economy still as promising? Can parents afford the ever increasing school fees? Can the Government intervene and provide subsidies for fuel? Is competition being politically suppressed? Do our politicians put self-interest first, appoint their cronies and associates to boards and other political appointed positions. Although mining is enjoying a boom and commodity prices are favourable, the bulk of Papua New Guineans are still poor and basic services non-existent because of mismanagement and corrupt practices. Confidence in our Government is poor and we need politicians who put PNG first on their agenda and not rhetoric. Raymond Hanave Gorosahu, Goroka |
