Writers told to use skills for AIDS campaign

PARTICIPANTS from several Milne Bay theatre companies who completed a five-day script writing workshop have been challenged to use their writing skills to spread information on HIV/AIDS.
Milne Bay Provincial AIDS Committee chairman Dr Noel Yaubihi urged the participants to produce good plays to disseminate information on HIV/AIDS.
Dr Yaubihi told the participants to take the awareness seriously as AIDS was an issue that was affecting individuals, families and communities.
“Financial difficulties, at times, will not enable you to perform so I encourage you to perform voluntarily,” he said.
He added that drama and theatre component were very powerful tools and what the participants did was very important.
Workshop facilitator Elijah Kanaro said the workshop enabled the participants to read and interpret information and understand issues outlined in theatre scripts.
Mr Kanaro said the scripts could be translated into local languages for performances in villages.
He said the workshop also enabled the participants to direct short plays, which are very effective.
