Officer enhances knowledge on security

A SENIOR Defence Force officer from the air element graduated from the Asia-Pacific Centre for Security Studies in Honolulu, Hawaii, early this month.
Lt Col Peter George Aimos graduated with a diploma in Advanced Security Co-operation course on March 6.
Lt Col Aimos joined 46 other senior military and civilian government leaders from 30 countries throughout the Asia Pacific region for the six-week course to study regional security.
The Asia-Pacific centre for Security Studies is a Department of Defence regional study, conference and research centre.
The center’s mission is to educate and develop leaders to advance strategic communications and security cooperation in the Asia Pacific region.
Countries represented during the course were American Samoa, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, Comoros, Cook Islands, India, Indonesia, Laos, Madagascar, Malaysia, Maldives, Marshall Islands, Mauritius, Micronesia, Mongolia, Nepal, New Zealand, Pakistan, Palau, PNG, Philippines, Samoa, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Tonga, Tuvalu, US and Vanuatu.
The participants discussed national policy and how the economic, diplomatic, political, cultural and military elements of power affected stability and security in the region.
Several senior PNGDF officers have graduated from the centre in the last few years.
