Woman rescued from month-long captivity

A 32-year-old woman has been rescued after being held for more than a month.
Rose Vei, from Nanua village in the Kairuku district of Central province, was rescued early last Friday morning in Abau, Central province.
The successful rescue came about, thanks to the Police Crime Stoppers programme shown over EMTV.
The members of the public who learnt of Ms Vei’s abduction provided information to police, who dispatched criminal investigators to the woman’s rescue.
In a statement, acting police commissioner Toami Kulunga said Ms Vei’s abductor Orea Oxy Boino from Musa village in Oro province fled as Port Moresby police raided
the house where he had detained Ms Vei.
Boino was believed to be armed with a police-issued pistol and was considered highly dangerous.
Members of the public are urged to report any sightings of him immediately to their nearest police station.
Mr Kulunga also thanked members of the public whose valuable information had led to the rescue of Ms Vei and also congratulated his men for their swift action.
“We must all unite in the fight against crime and criminals.
“It is everyone’s responsibility in securing a safer community for us
all.
“We must now make a statement to the criminals – you can run but you cannot hide,” Mr Kulunga said.
