Tinsely Hospital closes

THE Tinsely Hospital serving more than 50,000 people around Mul/Baiyer district in Western Highlands province decided to close after locals threatened to attack its personnel.
The hospital closed two weeks ago when some locals threatened a tutor of the Tinsely School of Nursing over the rejection of their enrolment applications for this year.
According to Eagle FM, the local radio station in the province, Baptist Union PNG Health Secretary Joseph Kala said the hospital would remain closed until such time the people from Tinsely and Baiyer hand over the suspects to the police.
Mr Kala said the new enrolment at the Nursing school was carried out observing set guidelines, adding they didn’t favour anybody to get enrolled.
He said the applications of the four suspects were rejected because they failed to meet the requirements.
He said it was not good for the locals to go to the Tinsely Hospital and School of Nursing just to threaten staff.
Mr Kala said such action clearly showed that the locals didn’t have any respect for the staff working in their area by providing them vital health services.
He said although the hospital would remain shut, it would still serve emergency cases until the suspects have been put in jail.
