NATIONAL flag carrier, Air Niugini has reached yet another milestone with the inaugural flight to Nadi, Fiji last Friday.
Prime Minister Sir Michael Somare was among the PNG business delegation on flight PX 4084 to Fiji via Honiara, Solomon Islands, where the Solomon Islands prime minister Manasseh Sogavare joined the delegation to Port Vila, Vanuatu for the Melanesian Spearhead Group signing.
Prior to the departure of the inaugural flight, Sir Michael said the introduced flight service was an important landmark that would provide alternate routes of travel to the United States and other overseas destination via Nadi for Papua New Guineans, while those in Fiji could travel to countries in Europe, Japan and others via Port Moresby as reciprocal arrangement to Air Pacific travellers.
Air Niugini would also be playing their part in taking our athletes to Samoa for the South Pacific Games this year via this route, Sir Michael said.
Chairman of the Independent Public Business Corporation (IPBC) Sumasy Singin said the new travel route would bring more tourists into the country.
“The new Port Moresby-Nadi service will provide opportunities for tourists to Papua New Guinea and business and leisure travel to Fiji as well as give alternative and convenient options for travel via Nadi to the United States, New Zealand and other Pacific Islands destinations,” Mr Singin said.
