TI PNG backs moves to change new NCDC Act

TRANSPARENCY International has thrown its support behind any attempts to amend the National Capital District Commission Act so as to remove the exclusive decision making power of the governor.
In a statement, TIPNG said the current Act allowed for an unacceptable and potentially illegal lack of transparency in decision making.
“Therefore, we applaud and encourage the efforts the Government makes to have the Act amended in a manner which remedies this lack of transparency.
“If, as has been reported, the Government intends to make these changes at the next parliamentary sitting, it is the view of Transparency International that the Nov 28 amendments of last year be removed entirely in order for the Act to be restored to its original status.
“This would restore the integrity of the NCDC and ensure proper representation of the community on its governing body.”
