| Police after ‘local porn ring’ in Lihir | |
|
By ELIZABETH VUVU POLICE in New Ireland have stumbled onto what may be a “local porn ring” at the Lihir mine site where a “trainer” is luring young female employees with jobs after they pose for the camera. Acting provincial police commander, Insp Elizah Taksir said police believe that between 2005 and 2007, an employee at the mine had been telling young local female workers of a catering company that he was a trainer and if they wanted jobs, they could go to his room and fill out job application forms. The trainer allegedly told the females that he would interview them and push for their applications but firstly they would have to strip and pose in front of the camera. After recent investigations conducted into this by Lihir police, three employees - one male and two females were charged last week for producing pornographic materials at the Lihir Gold Ltd camp two on Lihir Island. The incident had reportedly occurred between 2005 and 2007. The male employee attached with LGL’s processing plant is identified as Peter Nialim, 57, from the Township area on Tanga Island and is married with seven children. Police believe he is the so-called “trainer” in this porn scam. The two females are Anna Parau, 20, from Komat on Lihir and Felicia Daruntoi, 20, from Fonli on Tanga. Both are single and were attached with NCS at the LGL site. The three appeared in court last week, and are due to appear in court again today. Police raided the process plant office at the site and confiscated three compact discs, two flash drives, one digital camera and one video camera. All contained nude pictures of females. Insp Taksir said more suspects involved are expected to be picked up soon. |
