Six teams sign up in Goroka

SIX teams in the Goroka Rugby Football Union started its pre-season rugby tens competition at the National Sports Institute (NSI) last Saturday.
Goroka Rugby Football Union secretary Velda Feka said yesterday that the pre-season will see these six teams competing over two weeks before the season proper starts.
She said the same will kick off the 2007 season. Meanwhile, they are urged to pay up their K300 club registration fee and player registration fee with the latter amount still be worked out.
These six teams that took part on Saturday's preseason competition were Doggies, IMR Mosquitoes, Harlequins, Norths Jets, Kama Sharks and Silverbacks.
Ms Feka, who is also the PNG Rugby Football Union vice-president, said that PNGRFU will be presenting rugby merchandise to the six teams this Saturday. The merchandise includes footballs and other items that would help them in their trainings.
Despite the wet conditions at NSI last Saturday a lot of people both players and spectators turned up for the start of the pre-season games.
The results from these games: Doggies (2) 22 beat IMR Mosquito (1) 0, Harlequins (2) 5 beat Norths 0, Doggies (1) 17 beat IMR Mosquitoes (2) 5, Kama Sharks (2) 10 beat Silverbacks (1)0, Sharks (1) drawing 0-0 with Harlequins (1); and Doggies (2) 36 beat Norths Jets (2) 0.
