IN a letter published in the
Post-Courier on March 20, one “Bensco” tried to discredit Rimbunan Hijau
Group’s reputation as a multinational company and significant
contributor to the country’s economic development. His criticism of the group’s contribution of K5,000 to the PNG Paralympic Committee to train its athletes for the 2008 Beijing Olympics was both laughable and childish. The fact that he chose to hide behind a pseudonym speaks for itself. The group has donated more than K37,000 to disability sports since 2006. In that year, the group sponsored more than K9,000 worth of airline tickets for three athletes to participate in a competition in Malaysia. Last year, we contributed the tickets for five athletes to participate in the Oceania Paralympic Championships in Darwin. The tickets cost more than K23,000. Recently, we honoured our commitment to contribute K5,000 towards the team for the 2008 Beijing Olympics. The group has also assisted in church activities, HIV/AIDS campaigns and funded infrastructure totalling millions of kina. Mathew Werigin, PR Officer, RH PNG Group |
