MARCH seems to have not so much lived up to its name, as it sprinted into oblivion this year. We’re still dusting-off the odd Christmas spangle and ridding ourselves of the final dejected and very rubbery-looking New Year balloons.
***
BY the way, come Sunday there’s something out of the ordinary happening to celebrate PNG’s National
Anglers Day. It seems the fishing community has got together to sponsor a prize for the fishing addict who can clean and fillet the most fish over a 10-minute period.
***
THE president of the PNGNAA Barry Mandi reckons that’s not as easy as it looks, and there’ll be a school of judges including Riff Kordd and “Dipsy” Skolipp on hand to determine the ultimate winner. Sounds like a bit of fun for the whole family – so drop by the Sir John Guise Stadium on Sunday morning and give it a go.
***
THE prize-winner will score a year’s subscription to PNG’s Bik Pis magazine, a large fishing net big enough to catch anything short of a whale and a pair of
beautifully carved gulls to mark the occasion. We’re betting that last year’s winner and lone female
competitor Dolly Finn will once again skip over the competition.
***
OVER the years, radio in PNG has provided numerous contenders for Parliament – and quite a few have succeeded in capturing seats. We recall the success of outstanding radio personalities such as Sevese Oipi Morea, the charismatic Vaubukori man who won an NCD seat and later became Speaker of the House.
***
THAT thought was prompted by the news that the much listened-to Angra Kennedy has resigned from the airwaves to contest the Simbu regional seat; he’s
expected to be an endorsed Pangu Pati candidate.
Coca-Cola Garamut will never be the same!
***
ONE candidate seeking re-election in Madang has reportedly enclosed a section of land adjacent to his property with a multi-pillared fence, blocking one of the few remaining views of the ocean in that area.
Grumblers complain that he does not even own the land. Surely Madang provincial authorities have solid
evidence of the true owners?
***
AND a rattling good weekend to all!
