PNGCCI wants fair mobile service at a fair cost

THE Papua New Guinea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PNGCCI) is more concerned about a reasonable mobile service at a reasonable cost regardless of who the provider is.
PNGCCI president Michael Mayberry in a statement yesterday said: “We live in a competing world and unless we can compete, then the community will continue to suffer with a decline in living standards.
“For nearly five years Telikom should have been preparing for the withdrawal of its monopoly but we have seen continued user contempt by Telikom to the customers in providing a reasonable service with what appears to be a lack of real progress in addressing customer concerns.”
He said from the chamber’s perspective, there had been some improvements, but they were insufficient.
“As far as the chamber is concerned and from NEC decisions, matters have moved on and as with most businesses, competition is with us.
“We do not care who the provider is, all we are looking for is a reasonable service at a reasonable cost.
“With the mobile telephones, we see that as a great opportunity to substantially increase the users, which will mean an increase in revenue.
“If Telikom looks at this in a positive way, PNG will benefit greatly.
“With some goodwill and a greater focus on providing service, Telikom can once again take its place in a modern world where the community also benefits,” Mr Mayberry said.
