Yer to appear before leadership tribunal

FINANCE secretary Gabriel Yer will appear before the leadership tribunal inquiring allegations of misconduct against Gulf Governor Chris Haiveta next Monday.
Mr Yer will give evidence on how a sum K500,000 and K24,000 was put together in one cheque as the money was intended for different purposes.
One of the said amounts was for the Kerema-Malalaua road and the other was for Our Lady of the Sacred Heart High School now known as St Peter’s Skills Training Institute in Yule Island respectively.
Council for prosecution Camillus Sambua recommended Mr Yer to give further evidence after he was asked by the chairman of the tribunal Justice Timothy Hinchliffe if there were any more witnesses to give clarification on the raised cheque.
The three-member panel unanimously agreed that there was a need for clarification into the diversion of funds to prove allegations of misappropriation and mismanagement against Haiveta.
These followed a series of examination and re-examination of evidence given by headmistress of St Peter’s Skills Training Institute Nancy Tute, who testified that the said amount of money was never received by the school in cash or any form for that matter, and could not find in the school’s record thereby from period 1997 to 2001.
The tribunal will convene next Monday at 9.30am.
