Minor showdown in softball washouts
By WENDY KATUSELE
THE Port Moresby minor premiership title should be determined this
weekend when top teams Airways Bears and Budget Real Estate
Wantoks play their wash out matches against Malangan and Admiralty
respectively tomorrow.
Both teams who drew 4-all last weekend must win their matches to
consolidate the top placings.
Bears are currently leading the competition ladder edging Gazelle
by percentage while Wantoks is on third place a win should see
them jump into the second spot or the top should Bears under
estimate their New Ireland wantoks.
The progressive ladder: Bears 31, Gazelle 31, Wantoks 29, Stingerz
27, Admiralty 24, Dolphins 21 and Malangan 18.
For Admiralty a big win against Wantoks which is unlikely to
happen against a much stronger Wantoks should have them slip into
the fourth spot but a big margin win is needed to go pass Stingerz.
For Bears pitcher Margaret Josephs and catcher Terry Akorare will
be relied on to stop Malangan batters should they seriously want
another minor title added to their cabinet of trophies.
Their batting strength in the likes of Janice Soweni, Joyce Inguba,
Wendy Sogai, Antonia Tatai, Nadia Bais, Crystal Diou and Monica
Diapong should see them sail pass Malangan but Malangan has
Pacific games training squad member Lisa Polum and Kurai Tovia to
lead their onslaught.
Meanwhile in the B grade ladder Admiralty edges out Stingerz on
percentage and both are on 37 points, Tikina 30, Wantoks 25,
Dolphins 25, Gazelle 23, Bears 20 and Dolphins 17.
Under 16: Dolphins 33, Stingerz 27, Admiralty 22, Gazelle 19,
Wantoks 13.
