Improve road network in Enga
I WOULD like to highlight the deteriorating condition of roads in Enga province, which is made up of five districts.
Each district is connected by road from the provincial capital of Wabag except for Maramuni, which is not accessible by road.
Wapenamanda, Wabag, Laigam and Porgera roads form part of the Okuk Highway which starts from Lae in Morobe province and finishes in the mining town of Porgera gold mine.
Over the years, I have observed the road network has gone from bad to worse.
Roads linking Kompiam, Kandep and Lower Lai in the Wapenamanda district have not been maintained.
The people rely heavily on these roads to sell their produce and other cash crops in major provincial centres.
It is sad to see some parts of these roads being washed away, no bridges or culverts, bringing the local economy to a halt.
Roads are lifeline of the people.
If there is no road, people are cut off from the outside world.
Enga is in dire need of a better road network. There are other factors involved, such as land compensation and tribal fights but one thing is for sure, the people know the importance of roads.
So what are the leaders waiting for?
Get cracking and improve the roads which will in turn will improve our lives.
