| Dr Malau favours effective medical supply system | |

HEALTH secretary Dr Clement Malau
has welcomed help from the public sector reform management unit (PSRMU)
in identifying problem areas in the restructuring of national functions
for a more people-focused and effective medical supply and management
system. Dr Malau met with PSRMU director Bill Kua in Port Moresby last Thursday and highlighted outstanding management issues as well as offering suggestions on the way forward for the department under the new structure. After highlighting important issues yesterday, both the NDOH and the PSRMU have decided to collaborate and work together in addressing major setbacks and in introducing better management and effective service delivery to ensure healthier communities. PSRMU has established services improvement programme (SIP) for the health sector in 2002 but SIP has remained inactive until now under the new management led by Dr Malau. This year PSRMU has committed to continue in improving quality of service at the HR payroll, medical supplies and health promotions. Officials from PSRMU said yesterday was the first time to meet again since 2005 and agree on improving the conduct of business in the department. Programme manager for PSRMU external stakeholders Joseph Sukwianomb said one of the important document that should be considered in the new structure of management functions of health is the PSRMU. He said in any major restructuring for departments, functions or policy should be in line with what is in the PSRMU. Dr Malau said though functions have been handed down to the provincial government, drug supplies and management at the district level was poor resulting in services not reaching the majority of the people. “Leadership and good governance is important at all levels for healthier communities,” he said. |
