Lack of attendance angers councillors

THE non-attendance of officers from the Enga provincial administration and the Enga governor’s office to the consultative, implementation and monitoring council (CIMC) meeting in Goroka last week has angered local level government councillors from the province, who were present.
A prominent youth leader from Wabag and vice-president of the Enga Informal Sector Association Wapuri Mon along with LLG councillors, who attended the CIMC Highlands regional development forum, frustratingly said the non-attendance of Enga leaders to the CIMC illustrated their lack of commitment to helping the people in the districts and LLGs in Enga.
He said the CIMC was an important meeting which discussed the Highlands provinces’ 2006-2007 budgets and the provincial monitoring and evaluation reports, and was important for the province.
“It is rather shameful that no one from the Enga provincial administration was represented at the CIMC,” Mr Mon said.
He said it was even frustrating that he had to pay for transport to go to the meeting along with two councillors from the rural Maramuni district.
“On the other hand, the Enga provincial administration and the governor have vehicles moving around in Mt Hagen and Wabag doing nothing.”
He said there was a lot of glowing media reports about action and development taking place but the truth is life was going from bad to worse for people in remote areas such as Maramuni, Kompiam and parts of Wapenamanda.
