Primary school students get new uniforms

By ANDREW ALPHONSE
STUDENTS of Mount Hagen Tee Primary School, one of the oldest primary schools in Western Highlands province, last week donned their new school’s uniform for the first time after many years without uniforms.
Hagen MP William Duma responded to a request and made available K32,000 for the 1,200 Grades 3-8 students.
The school itself put up K7,000.
School board chairman Simon Kuk said the new white tops and dark blue shorts and skirts would create a sense of pride among students in the school and boost their academic performances.
Mr Kuk praised Star Tailoring Limited, a local tailoring company, for getting the 2,500 plus sets of uniforms done in only eight weeks.
Principal Want Kiap said the K7,000 was from surpluses carried over from last year, and parents did not need to pay.
