Observe true meaning of Easter, says judge

THE tragic death of a nephew of a high court judge over the Easter weekend should be a “wake-up call” for people to observe the true meaning of the Easter season.
A National and Supreme Court judge, Justice Panuel Mogish said this while speaking to The National yesterday about the fatal death of his nephew, Bale Mogish, 27, from West coast Namatanai in New Ireland province, who is a constable attached with the Criminal Investigation Division (homicide).
It was reported that the vehicle in which Bale was driving was travelling at high speed along the Waigani Drive towards Tokarara, when he lost control while making a U-turn and skidded off the road and plunged into a drain at the roadside.
Justice Mogish, the legal guardian of Bale, said Bale and his two friends were driving home to Tokarara when they crashed.
He described the death of Jesus Christ as the true meaning of the Easter season, adding people should observe it instead of drinking alcohol and driving around recklessly.
“History has it that Easter and Christmas are times of death as these seasons have been commercialised and many people want to celebrate it without even observing their true meanings,” he said.
