Separate booths backed

By ZACHERY PER
FEMALE candidates in the Highlands region are backing the Electoral Commission’s initiative to set up separate polling booth for female voters.
Aspirant for Kerowagi Open seat Martha Kaiun applauded the proposal on behalf of about 30 candidates in the Highlands
region for separate polling booth for women voters.
Electoral Commission had proposed to set up separate polling booths for female voters during provincial meetings with intending candidates in the Highlands region.
Mrs Kaiun said that the initiative would definitely alleviate undue influence and intimidation from their male counterparts and would subsequently result in a good number of women candidates being elected to Parliament.
“We embraced this opportunity with open arms because this would definitely give us, the female voters, great opportunity to independently exercise our democratic rights,” Mrs Kaiun said.
