Questions over Lae land

MOROBE Governor Luther Wenge has been called on to “come clean” regarding land deals in Lae.
Lae Open MP and leader of the New Generation Party (NGP) Bart Philemon yesterday called on Mr Wenge to attend to allegations of corruption and clear the air regarding a portion of land at the old Lae airport, which was allegedly sold for K700 to an Engan man by a person who was initially hired by the Morobe provincial government to survey and apportion the land.
The Engan then allegedly mortgaged that portion of land for a K900,000 loan from a commercial bank and when he failed to meet his loan commitments, the bank took possession of the land and placed it on public tender, which was won by a prominent trading company.
Last week Morobe deputy administrator Patilias Gamato placed a newspaper advertisement advising land dealers that all negotiations with the old airport was on hold.
