Search for man on
RELATIVES of a man who was alleged to have drowned at the mouth of the Markham River in Lae, Morobe province, last month, are still searching for him after a search conducted by the Morobe provincial disaster office was unsuccessful.
Relatives of the missing person have alerted villagers along the Morobe coastline from the Maus Markham village to Sipaia to watch out for any unidentified bodies that might be washed ashore.
Loha Ivaria, the missing man’s father, told The National that they were still searching for the body.
Mr Ivaria said his son drowned in the river two weeks ago when he was fishing with his mother on the banks of the Markham River.

Man killed in fight
A YOUNG man in his mid-20s was speared to death and several others, including a senior police officer, sustained wounds after a tribal conflict broke out last Saturday in the Aiyura valley of Eastern Highlands province over alleged sorcery.
Eastern Highlands provincial police commander Supt Philip Solala said the police station commander of the Obura-Wonenara district was speared in his leg when he tried to stop a commotion between the Gadsup and Tairora people at Aiyura.
Supt Solala said the policeman was treated at a nearby hospital.

Teachers’ rep recalled
THE National Court in Mt Hagen has ordered that the president of the PNG Teachers Association branch in Western Highlands province be reinstated on the provincial education board.
Aita Sanangkepe was removed from the board last May 9 and replaced with a primary school teacher, who was not an executive member of the PNGTA branch.
The PNGTA challenged this and Judge Allan David ruled that the decision by the provincial government to revoke the appointment of Mr Sanangkepe was illegal.
Justice David said Mr Sanangkepe should be on the board representing teachers in the province.
Highlands regional secretary for the PNG Teachers Association Peter Wama and Mr Sanangkepe said after the court victory that it was a big win for teachers in the province.
