Drummed up support

MOROBE Kundus will market its players to Asian markets through a website it plans to set up as part of a major drive that the new franchise owner Mathew Minape is embarking on while committing K300,000 to Morobe Kundus for the next three years.
"We should take a new approach towards the development of soccer to look north by creating a website for our players for Asian markets as Asians clubs are looking for potential players from South Pacific countries," Minape said.
He did not name which Asian countries or soccer clubs have shown interest in luring Pacific Islanders.
While committing the money for the next three years, Minape wants the best to win the NSL Cup and bring it to Morobe province - undisputedly the home of PNG soccer.
He also had the privilege of announcing a 28-man Morobe Kundus squad. The train-on players are Danny Kali, Douglas Raka, Tony Kipo, Hans Fred, David Kiaka, Manlee Vali, Daniel Mambu, Manu Abore, Hens Kawatt, Rodrick Nohu, Mapi Bigalam, Julius Peka, Richard Daniel, Joseph Tome, Sowera Guti, Bobby Kabekabe, Edward Sepeng, Billy Namuesh, Richmond Pokia, Desmond Sow, Clifford Wate, Robert Ronnie, John Joe, Eliud Furgi, Quinea Bafinu, Raphael Rave, Andrew Kassam and Arthur Ramenga.
Minape has accepted Lahi Soccer as his new NSL franchise for the third team to come from Lae to take part in the competition which kicks off in the coming week.
The team will will draw players from both Lahi and its mother association, Lae Football Association. The other two franchise teams from Lae are Tuguba Laitepo Morobe and Lae West.
Minape said the NSL board had approved the entry of a third team from Lae and this has secured the naming rights to sponsor the third NSL franchise soccer team.
"I'm pleased to formally accepted Lahi Soccer Association as my new franchaise soccer team with the initial amount of K100,000 for this year and the sponsorship will be renewed for the next three years," Minape said at the media conference yesterday at the Melanesian Hotel.
Other teams also ready to join NSL this year are Hekari United, Gelle Hills, Tuguba Laitepa Morobe, Welgris Highlands, Madang Country and Madang Kings. Still in the pipeline are Kimbe and Bougainville.
Meanwhile, Minape also committed K60,000 to sponsor LFA and Lahi pre-season and season proper competition for the next three years.
