Awards galore for Busamang trio

THREE young women unbeknown to the Ramu Sugar crowd at the National Club Championship over the Easter weekend placed their village Busamang in the Salamaua Local Level Government area in PNG Basketball history.
The three players Jenny Magatu and Nellie Jomsop of Theodist Unitech Bulls and Josey Sam of SVS Ramu Stars scooped up three of the four awards on offer in the women’s division.
Magatu , the better well known among the trio, was named centre of the tournament while Jomsop was named guard of the tournament and Sam the best forward.
The three are from Busamang, one of the well known villages east of Lae, across the Huon Gulf.
The biggest village in Morobe not only home to these award winners at the recently concluded club championship but is also home to the Leather Back Turtle Conservation project.
Other award winners also stunned the crowd as they came from associations known as the minnows in the game.
Felix Kipalang of Rawal Heats - Kavieng was named the men’s best guard while Lapule Yuasie of Henganofi Shadows - forward of the tournament and Simbu Badmix centre Hasu Sau was named centre of the tournament.
Huon Stars Ainue Kunsei was the player of the tournament and his team mate Tommy Bobby the best and fairest.
Other award winners in the women’s division were Lucy Ambro of SVS Ramu Stars - best and fairest and Philippa Jomkalop (Bulls) - player of the tournament.
