Settlement community into serious rugby league

OKAPA community of Eastern Highlands province living in Port Moresby kept themselves busy over the long Easter weekend with rugby leagues games organised by their Hanegaru Community Sports Association (HCSA) which brought 10 participating clubs under the association competing for cash prices.
The four-day event started on Good Friday and ended on Easter Monday with Nege Warriors club of Hohola back street taking out the first price of K700 together with the Stanley Nadex seal in the A grade division while Iyo brothers of Morauta at second place with 18 - 14 points
POM Hawks were in the third place getting the K200 price money while Gerehu eels settled with K100 at fourth place.
In the B grade Harve defeat Iyo Tigers of Badili with a 12 -10 score with K300 and K200 price money respectively.
At third place was Panthers of two mile with K100 cash price and fourth place to POM Hawkes with K50.
The player of the tournament was Wako Tom of Nege Warriors Tournament coordinator.
Tournament director Tony Kuni said the event was successful and attributed it to supporters, players, promoters and everyone involved.
As well, HCSA Secretary Lee Latoffe commended the participating teams for worthwhile and successful games bringing together families and friends together from all around the city and its outskirts.
Latoffe particularly thanked Port Moresby businessman Andrew Mald who contributed K4,000 to help the association in its continuing efforts to promote rugby league at community level.
He said the cash contribution by Mald was the biggest help the association has received of any individual or organisation.
