Free education promotes laziness

DR Michael Unage was right when he said that free education is a political gimmick.
Indeed when the Government announced a K100 million allocation towards free education, parents must have asked why this was not done five years ago.
It is an attempt to restore a diminishing image before the coming general election.
Free education is nothing more than a mere prattle to satisfy the people and the concept itself would imply a dependency and paternalistic syndrome that could cause considerable flagellation of laziness on the part of the parent and non-commitment on the part of the student.
The concept is not ideal for a productive output because it lacks vision.
The few provinces that have tried free education had found it difficult to implement as witnessed in Southern Highlands and by Sir Mekere Morauta.
