Electoral Commission confident of polls on track

By SHEILA LASIBORI in Wewak
THE PNG Electoral Commission is confident it is on target in its preparations before the issue of writs for the June national election.
These preparations also include the updating of the common rolls and the awareness on the limited preferential voting (LPV) system.
Electoral Commissioner Andrew Trawen said yesterday in Wewak that so far, 10 provinces had had their data on their preparations finalised with the EC.
But he said there were 10 more provinces that needed to report on their preparations with the EC, and so far, two provinces had reportedly done so.
“We are on target on the electoral rolls,” he said, adding that the awareness on the LPV system had picked up momentum since 2005.
Mr Trawen also expressed satisfaction at the awareness campaigns on a number of election related issues including the LPV system.
