ADB CEO visits PNG

THE president and chairman of the Asian Development Bank Haruhiko Kuroda will arrive in the country today for a two-day high-level visit.
Mr Kuroda, accompanied by senior bank officials, will hold separate meetings with Deputy Prime Minister Don Polye, Treasurer Sir Rabbie Namaliu and senior PNG Government officials on economics, aid and development issues.
In welcoming Mr Kuroda to the country, Sir Rabbie, who is the PNG representative on the ADB Board, said PNG was privileged in having the ADB’s chief executive visit here – his first since elected president in February 2005.
This is the second visit to the country by an ADB president – the last visit was 10 years ago.
Since joining ADB in 1971, PNG has received 58 loans totalling US$926.975 million ( K2.8 billion). PNG has also received 127 technical assistance projects totalling US$46.41 million (K140 million).
