Warriors more than ready to counter attack

PAGINI Warriors aims to distort LBC Bombers plans and preparations for the 2007 SP Cup season when they met in Lae for the opening round this Sunday.
According to Warriors head coach Gore Kaupa, they are planning to give the Bombers a big game in front of their own home crowd at the Lae Rugby League ground.
"My boys will throw in everything and were advised to perform to expectations. We understand that Bombers have also gone into intensive training sessions in preparation for the opening round.
"We do not underestimate them but would give them a good run and will aim to defeat them," he said.
Kaupa added that they do not want to let the people of Simbu down and call on their supporters in Lae to behave when they provide support for them.
He said Warriors selectors named a 26-men squad scaling down from an earlier 40-men train in squad after a trial match in Goroka against a Goroka Nokondi and Bintangor Lahanis sides.
Warriors fielded Kua Siune and Kua Baundo sides for the trial matches that Warrirors selector the opportunity to finalize the Warriors line up.
The two sides however lost to the two Goroka teams, Nokondi defeated Kua Siune 30-20 and Lahanis ousted Kua Baundo 40-18.
"The score lines did not favor us but we learnt a lot from the trial match that pin-pointed our weaknesses and strengths that enabled us to work hard on them.
"We are determined to give a good game to the Bombers and hope to win the first round," Kaupa said.
The finalized Warriors side had been hard at training at the Dicksons rugby league ground in Kundiawa under head trainer and former Kumul John Wamil Gul in preparation for the opener against Bombers.
The likely line up that Kaupa released is; Gordon Fred, Michael Mark, Joseph Numapo, Titus Dirua, David Jones, Lomax Numapo, Jopa Gomia (Junior), Roger Kuman, Thomson Kwiwa, Toxy Owi, Jeremiah Jonathan, Porian Bal (Captain), Esau Siune, Andrew Sipil, John Kelly, Bii Kerenga, James Ate and Newman Kaupa (One to be omitted).
Head trainer is John Wamil Gul, Manager is James Balawi and team Doctor is Dr Joshua

The squad include Samson Nande, Benson Joel, Eke Ene, Glenn Nami. Russ Kaupa Jnr, Max Romanang, Nime Kapo, Tony Dai, Andrew Baine, Dusty, Mockley, Jackson Undi, Jerry Kutz, John Milba
The reserves are Yapa Kapu, Cedric Belo, Leonard Otmar, Jonah Mackay, Titus Maima,
Steven Kua
LBC publicty officer Ian Walsh said the Bombers are hoping for a big crowd to see the start of the season , and hope that the new reduced ground entry fees of K7 for adults and K2 for children will see the Lae Rugby League Ground packed to capacity for what is sure to be a close and exciting game.
