National Men’s team manager Hubert Warupi in support of the
initiative said “there has been a lot of sporting competitions
lately of which Volleyball has featured prominently, this can be
attributed to the popularity of the game and it is for this reason
that we have decided to participate in community development
concerns by promoting volleyball to its fullest and at the same
time raise funds to assist our players in preparation for the
Pacific Games as well as other community events”.

finalists, and interested teams can register by contacting the
PNGVF interim office on 325 2036. Tournament registration is set
at K10 per player plus team fee of K150. The tournament is hoping
to attract 16 to 24 teams each to participate in Division 1 Mens
and Womens. Future tournaments will coincide with school holidays
to attract school aged children to participate.
The PNG volleyball sides, have been in full training since
November 2006 and are anticipating several international lead up
matches on the road to the South Pacific Games. The first of which
will be participation in a Queensland Volleyball Association
“Flaming Dragons Tournament” to be held in Brisbane from on May

Warupi said, “This Flaming Dragons tournament is an excellent
opportunity to test and measure the teams strengths and weaknesses
against quality sides like the Qld U21 and Qld U19 teams, Qld
Premier Volleyball League teams as well as representative sides
from Central and Southeast Qld”.
Part of the tour, will include several tournament lead-up games
