Crime rife in Lae city

CRIMINAL activities, especially hold-ups, along the Lae-Nadzab highway is on the increase.
I lived in Lae all my life until I left for studies in Australia and I always found the city to be safe and friendly.
Today, rape is rampant and people are held up in full view of others.
Even schoolchildren are robbed of their lunch money.
Many of the Australians I met know PNG and are afraid of visiting the country because of the crime.
I try to convince them otherwise, but they tend to believe what they read and hear.
This is not helping to promote our tourism.
If they are to visit a country in the Pacific, they would usually say Fiji or Vanuatu.
I hope the Morobe government, especially the governor and the Lae MP, will wake up and do something about the law and order situation.
