Residents invited to mark Earth Day

RESIDENTS of Port Moresby have been invited to participate in the Earth Day celebrations next Sunday by helping to clean the city’s beach front.
The Clean Ela Beach event is open to the public and scheduled to begin at 8am and end whenever the beach is clean and free of debris.
Ela Beach was once a turtle nesting beach, thus it was named “Era Kone” by the Motu-Koitabu people.
Last year, there were more than 1,000 beach clean-ups organised throughout the world, and data collected helped the Ocean Conservancy monitor major pollution sources world-wide.
Next Sunday, volunteers around the world will collect data and provide it to the Ocean Conservancy to aid them in their world-wide monitoring programme.
This is an effort of Port Moresby residents with the support of the American embassy, World Wildlife Fund, Akzo Nobel/Taubmans, Protect Security, Ela Murray International School, NAU FM and Trukai.
All Port Moresby residents are welcome to participate.
