Tribunal urged to continue task

THE State Prosecutor last Thursday asked the tribunal hearing allegations of misconduct against suspended Gulf Governor Chris Haiveta to continue its task.
Camillus Sambua called on tribunal chairman Justice Timothy Hinchliffe and senior magistrates Steven Abisae and Mark Pupaka to dismiss Mr Haiveta’s no case submission that his (Haiveta) lawyer, Rimbink Pato presented last Wednesday at the Sir John Guise Stadium in Port Moresby.
Mr Pato had called for the tribunal to be dismissed because there were no evidences against his client.
Mr Sambua said the evidences which the nine witnesses had presented before the tribunal against Mr Haiveta were sufficient.
Mr Sambua said Mr Haiveta must explain for allegedly failing to give annual statements to the Ombudsman Commission on time for 1993/1994-2001/2002.
Mr Sambua also said that Mr Haiveta must explain about all the financial transactions of allegations of misapplication of provincial support grants for 1999-2001, misapplication of K524,000 public funds in 2001 and misapplication of K250,000 provincial support grants in 2002.
The tribunal was adjourned to next Monday for a ruling to be made on the arguments made by Mr Sambua and Mr Pato.
Mr Haiveta is facing the tribunal after being referred by the Ombudsman Commission last Jan 30 to the Public Prosecutor on 28 into allegations of misconduct in office for;
*Failure to give annual statements on time for 1993/1994 to 2001/2002;
*Misapplication of provincial support grants for 1999 to 2001;
*Misapplication of K524,000 in public funds in 2001; and
*Misapplication of K250,000 in provincial support grants for 2002.
