Police Force undivided

THE Police Force has indicated that it is intact as it prepares for the June national election despite reports that there are divisions within it.
Last Friday, senior police officers and divisional heads including crimes director Raphael Huafolo, acting chief of operations Jim Andrews, New Guinea Islands regional commander Fred Sheekiot, Momase regional commander Giossi Labi and NCD/Central commander Alfred Reu, the provincial police commanders (PPCs) and senior officers showed their unity, when they flanked Police Commissioner Gari Baki during a press conference with the media in East Sepik province.
“The idea of causing disunity must not be exercised. Regardless of who the commissioner is the dedication must be called for,” Mr Baki said, adding the Police Force has much bigger responsibilities to concentrate on.
While the operations order for the security operations was yet to be finalised, Mr Baki said the country would go to the elections on the same day but individually starting in Southern Highlands province and then to other parts of the country.
Mr Baki said although previously security prominence was given to Mendi and Enga provinces, but had reverted from this idea.
Awareness on HIV/AIDS was also an issue that was discussed during the conference, especially in the light of members of the security forces being away from their families during deployments.
Mr Baki said while PPCs would lead the election security operations in their respective provinces, they and the divisional heads would also make sure their men were aware of issues on HIV/AIDs.
