East Sepik prepares for judiciary exhibition

By GABRIEL FITO
PREPARATIONS are underway to stage a week-long National Judiciary System exhibition in Wewak, East Sepik province.
The exhibition’s theme “Bringing the courts to the people” will start on April 30 and end on May 4.
Leslie Kolis from the Law and Justice Sector in Port Moresby said the aim of the exhibition was to educate people about the services available in the courts and the manner or process involved in acquiring the services.
He said in the exhibition the law and justice sector agencies would explain their role in the justice system and the service they provide and, where necessary, the manner or the process by which the public may access these services.
“The exhibition also provide an avenue to educate and make awareness on new or important legislations, law and order and other important issues such as HIV/AIDS and elections and human rights,” Mr Kolis explained.
Wewak District Court clerk Scholar Mapat said the exhibitions would also give specific attention to women’s issues such as maintenance and family violence.
Mrs Mapat said since the inception of court exhibitions in 2004, there had been six exhibitions held in Port Moresby, Lae, Mt Hagen, Kokopo, Buka and Rabaul.
After the Wewak exhibition, two others will be staged in Alotau and Popondetta in August and November respectively.
