Be responsible: Graduates told

GRADUATING students from the University of
Papua New Guinea in Port Moresby were told they have an important role
to play in developing this nation to become an economically strong
nation through sound political and economical leadership.
Chief Ombudsman Ila Geno challenged the 52nd UPNG graduands last Friday
to be strong of character and be responsible citizens when in any office
in the future.
He urged them to serve the nation with pride, honesty and integrity in
order for the country to progress.
“All educated person have a leadership role to play,” he said.
Mr Geno said that everyone was a leader of his or her own right, whether
in politics or in work places or in any capacity and that sound and
prudent leadership was necessary to create economically and politically,
a vibrant country, especially a young nation like PNG.
“Given the current scenario, we can say that we need to do more as our
country needs well educated quality leaders.
“And you people graduating today have a very important role to play and
it not easy to apply these theories of quality leadership because it is
very challenging out there in the field but you can do it if you have a
will,” Mr Geno said.
A total of 1,030 graduands passed out during the graduation ceremony
under the theme Transforming Papua New Guinea for betterment and
advancement of the future generations.
Among the graduates were 46 who obtained their Masters degrees from the
Centre for
Research and Postgraduate Studies – an increase of 30% from last year.
The School of Humanities and Social Sciences as usual saw the highest
number of graduates with 289, School of Law with 70, School of Business
Administration with 222, School of Natural and Physical Science 149, and
259 graduated from the School of Medical and Health Science.
