Upset in volleyball

Newly promoted Viriolo side started their 2007 premiership campaign in style with a 3-0 upset win over pre-season champions Grass Hoppers in the NCD Volleyball Assocition men's premier division at the TLC volleyball courts on Saturday.
Hoppers had the height, experience and power at the net in Titus David, Benny Ume and player maker Jeffery Gima but it was clever play by this unknown side, led by setter Steven Au, with coach, Tau Au calling the shots from the side, that determined the end result.
In another heated encounter, defending premiers Melona Scorpions overpowered a new-look Aranamo outfit 3-1. Aranamo have recruited well adding, Tuksy and Patrick Karu from VAVA's Black Arrows club and Vui Vele from Taikone Association to team up with Gereana Kila.
But the Aranamo team-combination might take time to click as it was evident that Scorpions' better team coordination saw them win the first three points.
Scorpions have added Vatu Rupa from Hoppers and Terry Rupa from Blacks to add some height and power at the net and are now looking as the team to beat early in the season.
In the other men's premier matches, MJ U-Mi Yet nailed Peteru and PNG Ports gave Ulamagi the same treatment.
On the women's side of the court, Melona Scorpions became victorious in straight sets over Viriolo, MJ U-Mi Yet gave Magpies a 3-0 thrashing, Aranamo beat Kijo in straight sets and the game between Hoppers and Peteru was called off due to technical reasons.
