No law and order in Wewak
IT is a shame to see Wewak town, the home of Prime Minister Sir Michael Somare, in chaos.
Are there any policemen and women there?
If yes, where are they?
Are they performing their duties as law enforcers?
Recently, I spent a week in Wewak and witnessed youth drinking homebrew and causing nuisance in public places such as the market and main shopping centre.
On April 4, I was shocked to see a youth on rampage, knocking down rubbish bins and abusing those on his path.
Guard Dog Security officers immediately took control of the situation and put an end to the youth’s rampage.
But where were the police officers? Were they hiding?
Then as I was standing in front of Papindo and BSP, some youths and a guard had an argument and they ended up throwing punches.
Fortunately, a police vehicle cruised pass with three uniformed officers.
However, instead of coming out of their vehicle and put an end to the fight, they drove on!
I could not believe what I saw.
Is it any wonder why there is no law and order in Wewak?
The Wewak town that I knew as a child and youth has gone to the dogs.
Can the police administration in Port Moresby look into the non-existence of law and order in Wewak and East Sepik as a whole?
