Finance chief invites public in probe
FINANCE Department inquiry chairman, Maurice Sheehan yesterday announced that it was ready to look into eight files concerning settlements against the State worth millions of kina.
He invited the public to give information they have that are relevant to the eight files.
The public hearing is expected to resume today.
Among the people named in the eight files are, chief secretary Isaac Lupari, MP for Moresby North East Andrew Mald and prominent businessman Daniel Mapiria.
The eight files, which are claims against the State involving transactions of K300,000 or more during the period Jan 1, 2000 to July 1, 2006, include:
* Gabriel Yer Toi and Umba Y Gabriel and 225 others v/s the State and 5 others .
* Jimmy Kendi and Jimendi enterprises claim to Finance Department .
* Simon Wapo v/s the State .
* Manoburn Earthmoving Ltd v/s the State.
* Isaac Lupari v/s the State .
* Nakitu Lts v/s the State.
* Andrew Mauld v/s the State.
* Daniel Mapiri v/s the State.
The inquiry on Monday was with the Solicitor-General Neville Devete and Ian Augerea, the registrar of the Supreme and National Courts, who furnished them with certain documents requested for by the inquiry two weeks ago.
