Issuance of new mobile licences is great news

THE announcement by the Independent Competition and Consumer Commission that new mobile phone licences will be issued on or before October is great news.
It shows that the commission is confident of winning the case brought about by Telikom and that we will finally see competition in the industry.
This will not only benefit the people of PNG who have had to put up with poor telecommunication services but will also motivate Telikom to raise its game in preparation for the entry of two new mobile phone service providers.
We are entering a new and progressive time that is only going to bring good things to this country.
My only fear now would be that Public Enterprises Minister Arthur Somare will block this move by delaying the entry of the operators.
Let us hope this does not happen as no good can come out of it.
