Driving through airport car park
CAN someone explain why we have to drive through the Port Moresby airport car park to get to the old terminal and Six Mile?
Why is it that we cannot build a road that bypasses the airport?
I also notice that some people are allowed to pass through the roadblock and drive to the front of the terminals.
Why the special treatment for these vehicles which do not bear diplomatic registration plates? -James Jafasin, Port Moresby

Hannet missing from Bougainville
THIS is in regard to Leo Hannet’s sudden resurrection as Bougainville MP. Where has he been since his election? His regional office is filled with claims and proposals. Hannet was mocking the late Peter Tsiamalili when he said that he was saddened by his death. Hannet was never in Bougainville to help the Autonomous Bougainville Government (ABG) through its struggles. People know Hannet first and foremost as the chairman of the Public Accounts Committee rather than as Bougainville MP. There has been no development since he came into office. The ABG is paying for our children’s school fees, building roads and running the health centres but all this was initiated by Tsiamalili and the Kabui government. – Anthony, Madang

A sight for sore eyes
PORT Moresby’s Ela beach has become a beach of empty tin cans, plastic bags, human waste, etc. It is sad to see this once-beautiful beach turned into a dumping ground. I wonder what it is like in the other villages along the coast, particularly the ones close to Port Moresby. It makes one wonder if the villagers are dumping their rubbish into the sea. Community leaders, villagers from the Wanigela village and NCDC should be responsible for all the rubbish that is being dumped into the sea and polluting Ela Beach and the sea. – Fed up, Via email

Polluted water risky for people
I WAS most happy to see the installation of manual pumps in Mekeo villages due to the alleged contamination of the river systems by the Tolukuma gold mine. However, I am concerned by Dr Sylvester Kotapu’s comment that boiling water for consumption is not a solution. He also said that “apart from drinking, even touching, washing and smelling would also affect the people”. This would mean that thousands of people are at risk because they depend on the rivers for their water. The authorities must address the matter immediately. As for the gold mine, if it failed to comply with requirements, its operations should at least be suspended immediately. – Mangi Onape, Brisbane, Australia

Nightmares with faulty lines
I HAVE a small business and use a prepaid telephone which is good because as soon as it runs out of credit, the line is automatically disconnected. The problem lies with the internet connection. My nightmare began when I started experiencing a faulty line which later went completely dead. This was in June last year. Since then, I have lost count of the number of times I have tried to get the line repaired. Often, when I call Telikom, I am transferred from one person to another and another. I am therefore thankful to the ICCC for giving us hope. – Disillusioned 3254760, Port Moresby
