Suspect slashed to death

A SUSPECT was killed and four of his accomplices escaped death in an attempted armed hold-up at Namasali compound in Wau on Wednesday night.
A Wau police spokesman confirmed the killing and said the victim was part of a gang of five men armed with a home-made gun and bush knives who broke into a house and held up a father and son and tried to rob them when they were disturbed.
“The five armed suspects broke into the house at Namasali compound in the early hours of Wednesday morning and held up a son and his father, slashed them with bush knives and tried to rob them when the son cried out for help,” the policeman said.
He said when the neighbours came to their rescue, the four gang members managed to escape.
The fifth armed suspect fired a shot and tried to reload his gun when the neighbours surrounded the house, entered and slashed the back of his head in half with a bush knife, killing him instantly.
Police said the body of the dead suspect was at the Wau health centre morgue.
They have appealed to the community to identify and claim the body.
