Wanjik seeks to stop any appointment

THE former mining secretary James Wanjik is seeking interim orders to restrain the National Executive Council from making substantive appointments until the substantive hearing is heard and determined.
Leave of judicial review into the revocation of Mr Wanjik was granted on April 5.
The urgent application filed at the Waigani Court House challenging the NEC decision in revocation of Mr Wanjik’s appointment for a four-year period was heard yesterday before acting Chief Justice Sir Salamo Injia.
Joe Yaga, counsel representing Mr Wanjik, informed the court that proper procedures were not followed nor implemented prior to the revocation of his client.
“Consultation should take place between relevant authorities such as the Department of Personal Management, Public Services Commission (PSC) and NEC before revocation of my client. However, the consultation process did not take place at all,” he said.
Sir Salamo questioned Mr Yaga if there was evidence to support his submission that NEC used to revoke Mr Wanjik’s appointment based upon PSC recommendation.
Mr Yaga replied and said that there was no correspondence between the plaintiff and parties concerned and also the notice of his suspension did not contain any reasons or grounds in suspending Mr Wanjik.
